A Conspiracy of Ignorance

Words and Music: Steffen Albert Rheinbauer

I’d like to tell you of a man who laid dying in his bed
And with his final breaths, the things he had said
He feared the loss of his true love, this land of Calontir
I pray that you good gentles will listen and draw near

This man he was of many years, four score and then 3
Many a noble King and Queen he had chance to see
The customs that we follow now, we actions of his own
He was in this land of Calontir, when first the seed were sown

He truly feared that we would lose everything that we had earned
That each and every castle and all our lands would burn
Asked that this destruction would come from what hand
With his final breath he said, the people of this land

Like a beast that dies of a thousand cuts, of courtesies not made
Of tiny crimes of innocence, of honors we mislaid
By forgetting all the valiant deeds, losing songs we no longer hear
He feared the loss of his true love, this land of Calontir

I pray that you good gentles will save this old man’s soul
I hope that you agree, it is a noble goal
Pray help me raise this old man’s soul from the dark depths of hell
Pray sing the songs of olden days, and old stories pray do tell
